Three card tarot reading

Past, present and future in three cards. The simplest spread to read and often the most revealing.

What is it about?
Your question stays on your device. We do not save it.

Why three cards work so well

Three cards are enough to tell a story with a beginning, a middle and a direction, but few enough that you can hold the whole picture in your head. The first card shows what led here, the second what is happening now, and the third where things are heading if nothing changes.

That last part matters. The future card is not fixed. It describes the current direction, which means it also shows what you might want to change.

Reading the cards together

After reading each card on its own, look at how they connect. Does the energy rise from past to future, or fall? Are there several cards of the same suit? Cups point to feelings, Wands to energy and ambition, Swords to thoughts and conflict, Pentacles to practical matters. A Major Arcana card in the spread marks a bigger life theme. Our three-card spread guide goes into more detail.

Questions and answers

What does the future card mean?
It shows where the situation is heading if things continue as they are. It is a direction, not a fixed fate.
Can I use this spread for love questions?
Yes. Choose “Love” before you shuffle and every card is interpreted in the context of relationships.
How often should I do a three-card reading?
There is no rule, but asking the same question again and again tends to cloud things. Give the situation time to move before asking again.
What if all three cards are reversed?
It usually suggests that energy is blocked or that the situation needs inner work before outer action. It is not a bad omen, just a sign to slow down.
